TWO ART EXHIBITS: JUNE 3rd - AUG. 2011

I have the distinct honor of being in two art exhibits this summer.  Passion and Pathways, at Salon Joose Studios (3rd & Green) http://4joose.blogspot.com/ and Northern Liberties: A Transformation, at the Projects Art Gallery (2nd & Fairmount). http://www.projectsgallery.com/.

Both galleries are in Northern Liberties, a Philadelphia, center city location just north of Old City.
Both shows opened on First Friday, June 3rd at 6pm.   Although the two galleries are just around the corner from one another, I couldn't be at two places at the same time....What I have learned is, reality is hard to deal with sometimes.  I wished that I could have met some of the artist in the Projects Gallery show....
There I exhibited a large 30hx24w inch urban documentary black and white photograph called "Finding Randy".  This image derives from my Urban Portrait Series 1986-88
(See below and Urban portaiture tab above).
Finding Randy, 30hx24w,
archival pigment silver print, on rag
$1900.00 (Framed)

SOLD

For the Salon Joose exhibit, I created two new mixed mixed media, southern themed artworks: Sense of Serenity and Rising Through The Landscape; "Rising Through The Landscape" shown above is a narrative about Union Soldiers crossing through the many southern bounderies including the landscape while forging on their way to liberty.  The surface of the photograph has been covered with my newest signature, a symbolic, cotton gauze overlay....click on the image above to enlarge and enjoy more of the obvious texture details.

This piece has many layers to unfold, it is myterious and powerful to view.  I was not surprised that it was sold before the night was over.  Mixed media photography/collage and painting best represents my work over the past five years. It is really time consuming and worth it in the long run.  I originally intended to create a total of three pieces for the Passions and Pathways show but the demands of running my own showroom space kept me away from my full artistic flow.  In spite of this, I think my two completed artworks were a big success.  Opening night was a hit, Salon Joose had a great turnout with great food, wonderful guest and creative atmosphere as usual.

April 1st, Open House Event

I had a great studio open house on April Fool's night, April 1st, 2011,
Here are the pieces that sold!

Teach Them Well

As you can see, in spite of the silly April Fool's date, there weren't any jokers in the house... just friends and collectors who bought up several pieces.  The art works sold went to three different homes in the Philadelphia area.  Mistical Woods actually just moved up the street in Northern Liberties to a new collector who I met that night.  Thanks to everyone who showed up and made the night a smashing success.   Tanya M.

Photography and Mixed Media Slide Show

I understand the difficulty in seeing all of my work in one place.  I have gathered and arranged a slide show of Southern Connections (photography series 2006-2008) as well as the Travelers Series of mixed media (photo/collage releif paintings 2007-2011) from my two previous websites.

Click the link here below to see the slide show. ENJOY!
